About the role

Liontown Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Mine Backfill Engineering professionals to join our team. We are open to candidates at both Senior and Principal levels, and will align responsibilities and scope to suit the level of experience and capability you bring. This role comes at a pivotal time as we prepare to bring our paste plant online.

This position will be offered as a permanent opportunity based at our Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.

With our plant now fully commissioned, we have successfully transitioned into production and are six months into operations with a 20+ year mine life. Our Open Pit continues to operate through 2025 and at current rates is on track to be completed early in 2026. Meanwhile, our underground operations continue with decline and level development in line with plan. The team onsite remain on track to commence underground stoping in early production Q4 FY2025.

Reporting to the Mine Backfill Superintendent, the Senior Mine Backfill Engineer will be responsible for;

• Backfill System Design: Develop and optimise mine backfill systems, integrating geological, geotechnical, and environmental considerations.
• Material Selection and Testing: Select appropriate backfill materials and conduct tests to meet engineering specifications and compatibility with underground methods.
• Technical Oversight: Oversee the installation and operation of backfill systems, monitor performance, and implement improvements.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation measures, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with mine operations, geology, and engineering teams to align backfilling strategies and address operational challenges.

About you

• Strong expereince in mine engineering roles, focusing on mine backfill.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing backfill systems in underground mining operations.
• In-depth knowledge of mine backfill engineering principles and best practices.
• Exposure to Ventsim software is a plus but not essential
• Strong working knowledge of Australian mining practices, safety, and environmental standards
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and pass a pre-employment medical and D&A screen
