The opportunity
The Project Geology Superintendent manages the project geology function at Liontown's Kathleen Valley operation, leading a multidisciplinary team of project geologists and technical staff to oversee drill program design and execution, geological interpretation, and resource modelling across all mine planning time horizons.
What you’ll be doing
In this newly created role, reporting to the Geology Manager and working closely with the Mine Geology Superintendent, Mine Planning, and key internal stakeholders, the Project Geology Superintendent partners across functions to ensure continuity between resource models and operational grade control, creation of GC models, communicating technical findings and recommendations to senior leadership to influence decisions affecting resource definition, mine planning confidence, and mine-to-mill performance across the site. This is a permanent, full-time role based at Kathleen Valley, on an 8/6/4/3 FIFO roster from Perth.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Team leadership and development: Manages, mentors, and develops a team of project geologists and geological technicians, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and structured capability development.
- Resource modelling and estimation: Oversees geological interpretation and then execute the creation of GC models. Develop resource modelling activities, including lithology, mineralisation domains, structural controls, and geometallurgy profiles, ensuring models reflect current deposit understanding.
- Data management and quality: Working with Database Administrator to ensure database integrity, implementing QA/QC protocols across all data capture from field sampling through to laboratory results.
- Drilling programs and contractor management: Develop long-term drilling budgets and schedules, managing contractor relationships to ensure safe and efficient delivery on schedule and within budget.
- Collaboration and integration: Partner with Mine Geology Superintendent and work closely with mine planning teams.
- Continuous improvement and compliance.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience in resource geology, geological modelling, and resource estimation within an underground or open pit mining environment. Lithium experience highly regarded.
- Strong experience in Datamine, Leapfrog and Supervisor is required.
- Bachelor of Science (Geology) or equivalent; plus, Postgraduate qualification in Geostatistics, Resource Estimation, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Membership of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) or equivalent professional body.
- Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screen.
