Senior Engineer - Project Production

Date: 13 Oct 2026

Location: Kathleen, Western Australia, Australia

Company: Liontown Resources Limited

Who are we?

Liontown Limited is one of Australia's newest lithium producers. Our Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation in Western Australia is a Tier-1 asset with a mine life of more than 20 years, and we're now building on that foundation through a significant staged underground expansion.

Kathleen Valley is an operating asset in ramp-up, not a start-up. As part of that ramp-up, we're delivering a processing plant upgrade, including the paste plant upgrade and staged lifts of our tailings facility. In this role, you'll help make sure these works are delivered to design intent, giving you exposure to a live capital programme alongside day-to-day accountability for an operating facility.

The opportunity

We're looking for an Engineer to join our Production Services team. Reporting to the Superintendent – Production Services, you'll combine technical leadership of our Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) with engineering support on paste plant, RO treatment plant and run-of-mine (ROM) project work.

On the tailings side, you'll be the appointed Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE), holding technical accountability for the facility and acting as the primary interface with the Engineer of Record. Alongside the wider team, you'll support paste plant, RO treatment plant and ROM project work as it comes through Production Services, reviewing designs, evaluating consultant and contractor work, and verifying construction through to commissioning and handover. It's a varied role at a site that is still growing.

What you'll be doing

Tailings leadership: as RTFE, you'll:

  • maintain a thorough understanding of the TSF design basis, design intent and operating performance, and act as the primary technical contact for the Engineer of Record
  • manage the surveillance and instrumentation programme and the tailings deposition plan, including storage capacity and staging forecasts
  • progress the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) conformance action plan and maintain the Tailings Management System documentation.

Engineering and project support: working with the wider team, you'll:

  • support paste plant and RO treatment plant project work with design review, technical evaluation and construction verification, through to commissioning and handover
  • contribute to scopes of work for consultants and contractors, and provide input to cost estimates, schedules and tender evaluations
  • provide geotechnical and materials engineering input to paste plant projects, including paste material behaviour and mix performance
  • support analysis of RO treatment plant performance to identify improvement opportunities, and help close out outstanding RO treatment plant project works.

What we're looking for

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • a minimum of five years' post-graduate experience in geotechnical or civil engineering, including tailings storage facility design, construction or operation
  • experience acting as, or directly supporting, an RTFE, or in a comparable site tailings or dam safety role
  • working knowledge of GISTM and Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) guidelines
  • experience in design review, construction verification or project delivery, including holding consultants and contractors to scope and specification
  • a bachelor degree in geotechnical or civil engineering, or a closely related discipline with demonstrated geotechnical specialization
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in a relevant discipline, or eligibility to obtain chartered status within 12 months (essential for the RTFE appointment) [TO CONFIRM: Is CPEng actually required for this role?
  • a current Australian driver's licence and the ability to meet standard Western Australian mine site induction, ticketing and medical requirements
  • experience with Western Australian tailings regulation, paste backfill, RO water treatment or life-of-mine tailings studies, ideally in a hardrock FIFO operation (highly regarded).

Why Liontown?

At Liontown, you'll join a team that's helping power the clean energy future. Our culture is built on people who take ownership, look out for each other, and are proud of what they're building together.

This role offers genuine variety, combining tailings leadership with paste plant and RO treatment plant project work, the chance to shape a growing operation, and a strong team to work alongside. It's a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) role from Perth on an 8/6 day-shift roster, with accommodation at the modern Dragonfly Village, minutes from site, and competitive remuneration.
