About the role
Liontown Limited is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to play a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of underground mining at Kathleen Valley.
This position is critical to maintaining ground stability, managing geotechnical risk, and enabling sustainable production as the mine ramps up. The role is site-based, working an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, and includes accommodation in our newly built Dragonfly Village.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will work closely with Underground Operations, Technical Services, Geology, and Planning teams.
Key responsibilities
• Geotechnical Design & Analysis: Provide geotechnical input into stope, development, and infrastructure design, including ground support standards, pillar design, and excavation sequencing.
• Ground Control & Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage geotechnical hazards, ensuring effective controls are implemented to maintain safety and operational continuity.
• Monitoring & Data Interpretation: Oversee geotechnical monitoring systems (mapping, instrumentation, seismic data where applicable), interpret results, and provide clear recommendations to operations.
• Operational Support: Deliver practical, site-based geotechnical guidance to underground crews, ensuring designs are executable.
• Technical Reviews & Assurance: Contribute to geotechnical investigations, design reviews, and periodic audits, ensuring compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Work collaboratively across disciplines, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement of geotechnical practices.
About you
• Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years’ experience in underground geotechnical roles, ideally within hard rock mining.
• Demonstrated experience supporting stoping operations and underground development.
• Strong understanding of ground support systems, failure mechanisms, and risk-based design.
• Proven ability to translate complex geotechnical information into clear operational guidance.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive, site-focused mindset.
• Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
• Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical and Drug & Alcohol Screen.
