Senior Mine Backfill Engineer

The expansion is underway. Underground development of the Northwest Flats orebody is progressing, infrastructure programs are accelerating, and a dedicated project team is being assembled to deliver the next phase of Liontown's growth. 

The Opportunity

This is a senior technical role responsible for managing the execution, compliance, and continuous improvement of all underground paste fill activities at Kathleen Valley. You'll own the medium-to-long-term backfill planning strategy, support and mentor backfill engineers, and serve as the key technical expert across the underground backfill network.

You'll work closely with our mining contractor, plant supervisors, and our underground technical services teams — maintaining alignment of the backfill schedule with stope production and driving performance across a complex, fast-paced underground environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Oversee all underground paste fill activities, ensuring compliance with technical design, production schedules, and site standards.
• Develop and maintain medium-to-long-term strategy and planning for the underground backfill team, collaborating and communicating with key stakeholders within the underground technical services and processing teams.
• Provide backfill inputs into underground capital design and level stoping design, acting as the key technical decision-maker for paste infrastructure scope and technical direction at the planning phase.
• Own the technical review of stope backfilling and reticulation performance, identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities across underground paste operations, improving performance, safety, and efficiency.
• Support, mentor, and review the work of Mine Backfill Engineers.
• Lead procurement of underground backfill infrastructure, proactively managing supplier timelines and installation sequencing to achieve the underground production schedule.
• Ensure compliance with statutory inspection requirements and WHS Act & Regulations

What We're Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in Mining, Mechanical, or Geotechnical Engineering – we welcome candidates from across these and other relevant disciplines
• Minimum 3–5 years in the mining industry, with at least 1 year in backfill or paste-related activities
• Technical services experience in a hard-rock underground mine
• Proficiency in Deswik (essential)
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills — comfortable working with contractors, plant supervisors, and technical teams
• Understanding of WHS Act & Regulations and experience with incident investigation
• Current Western Australian C Class Driver's licence 
• Experience with contract management and procurement

This is a permanent position on an 8:6 roster (12-hour days).
