Senior Planning Engineer - Long Term Planning
Date: 27 May 2026
Location: Kathleen, Western Australia, Australia
Company: Liontown Resources Limited
Kathleen Valley, Western Australia | Technical Services | 8:6 Roster | Permanent
Who are we?
Liontown Limited (ASX: LTR) is one of Australia's newest and most exciting lithium producers. Our Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation in Western Australia is a world-class, tier-one asset with a 20+ year mine life — and we're now scaling underground production while planning the next phase of the operation's long-term future.
As Kathleen Valley grows, so does the complexity and importance of long-term mine planning. This role sits at the heart of that work.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this is a senior technical role with a clear purpose: to bridge the gap between life-of-mine strategy and what the site planning team executes day to day.
You'll take the medium-to-long-term vision; Life of Mine designs, budget-level timelines, and strategic planning outputs; and translate them into actionable, executable plans that the Technical Services Team on site can work from. It's a role that demands both technical rigor and the ability to communicate across levels, from senior technical stakeholders to frontline engineering teams.
This is a full-time, site-based permanent position on an 8:6 roster, with one week in every eight based out of the Perth office, providing a connection between site operations and corporate technical planning.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the budget planning horizon (2 years), translating Life of Mine designs into practical, executable strategies for the site team.
- Develop and manage budget-level timelines that align underground mining activities with corporate production targets and life-of-mine strategy.
- Act as the primary planning link between the Principal Mining Engineer and site-based Technical Services team, ensuring strategic intent is clearly communicated and consistently applied.
- Build and maintain medium and long-term underground mine schedules using Deswik IS, integrating geological, geotechnical, infrastructure, and operational inputs.
- Partner with the Principal Mining Engineer on Life of Mine schedule development, continuously refining plans in response to operational performance and updated resource estimates.
- Collaborate with Planning, Geotechnical, Ventilation, and Infrastructure to ensure long-term plans reflect site constraints and are fully executable.
- Provide clear, well-structured planning outputs and technical reporting that supports decision-making at both site and corporate level.
- Identify planning risks and opportunities early and work proactively with the broader Technical Services team to address them.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in underground mining engineering with a strong focus on mine planning; particularly medium and long-term scheduling.
- Proven ability to develop Life of Mine and budget-level plans in a hard-rock underground environment.
- Proficiency in Deswik software for both development and stope designs.
- Experience working across organisational levels, translating strategic planning into site-executable programs.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; you'll be a central connector between planning, engineering, and operational teams.
- National Police Clearance (within the last 6 months) or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screen.
