The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Mine Planning Superintendent to lead our Underground Technical Services Planning Team at Kathleen Valley.
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this site-based role will oversee a team of ten engineers covering both mine planning and ventilation disciplines, working across 2 panels on an 8/6:4/3 roster. You’ll play a critical role in driving the short, medium, and long-term planning function, ensuring seamless coordination between operations, technical services, and projects as Liontown continues to ramp up to steady-state production.
This position also provides leadership coverage for the Technical Services Manager when required, offering an excellent opportunity to step up and broaden your exposure at a senior level.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and mentor a team of mine planning and ventilation engineers and support them with their development.
- Oversee short, medium, and long-term mine plans aligned with operational and strategic objectives.
- Provide guidance to ensure mine design and scheduling forecasts optimise safety, recovery, and cost performance.
- Collaborate closely with operations, geology, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain compliance with statutory and operational standards for underground mine design, planning and ventilation.
- Support the Technical Services Manager with reporting, leadership coverage, and strategic planning initiatives.
What we’re looking for
You’re a technically strong and people-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced underground mining environment. You’re proactive, pragmatic, and able to translate plans into actionable outcomes on site.
Your background includes:
- Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven experience in underground mine planning and design (large scale long hole open stoping in hard-rock preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of Deswik or equivalent planning software.
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Have obtained a National Police Clearance within the last 6 months or have the ability to obtain one.
- Able to pass a Pre-Employment medical and Drug and Alcohol screen.
