The opportunity
In this new role, the Corporate Tax Manager is responsible for managing all tax compliance, reporting, and advisory functions across Liontown. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a full-time, permanent role that ensures Liontown meets all of its tax obligations in Australia and, as the business expands, in international jurisdictions.
What you’ll be doing
As Liontown’s subject matter expert on tax, you will provide proactive advice to the Finance team and the broader business, maintaining a robust governance framework, and managing relationships with external advisors and the ATO. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the preparation and lodgement of the Group's Australian corporate income tax returns, including consolidated entity tax calculations.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and lodgement of Business Activity Statements (BAS) for all Group entities on a timely and accurate basis.
- Manage payroll tax compliance across all relevant Australian states and territories, including registration, monthly returns, and annual reconciliations.
- Manage FBT compliance across the Group, including overseeing the preparation and lodgement of the annual FBT return.
- Manage the Group's withholding tax obligations, including PAYG withholding, royalty withholding tax, dividend withholding tax, and interest withholding tax on cross-border payments.
- Oversee tax effect accounting calculations including current tax, deferred tax assets, and deferred tax liabilities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Group's tax risk management framework, including a Tax Risk Register and tax governance policy consistent with the ATO's Tax Governance Guide for large businesses.
- Lead the tax workstream for entry into new countries and jurisdictions, overseeing assessment of optimal corporate structure from a tax perspective in coordination with legal and corporate advisors.
- Develop and implements proactive, commercially grounded tax advice to the Finance team and broader business on transactions, contracts, capital projects, and strategic initiatives.
What we’re looking for
This role requires a broad and deep knowledge of Australian tax law with the ability to research and apply complex legislative provisions. It will suit someone who can translate technical tax analysis into practical, commercially sound advice relevant to a mining and resources business. We are looking for:
- Substantial experience in corporate tax, with a combination of Big-4 or mid-tier public accounting practice and in-house corporate tax management. Experience of resources, mining, or capital-intensive industry is desirable.
- Proven experience managing a broad range of Australian tax compliance obligations including income tax, GST, FBT, payroll tax, and withholding tax.
- Experience with tax effect accounting under AASB 112 and preparation of tax disclosures for listed company financial statements.
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualification, or equivalent.
- Membership of the Tax Institute of Australia (CTA) or equivalent is desirable.
- Post graduate qualification in taxation, e.g. Master of Tax, is desirable.
- Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screen.
